JON AND MARIANELLA, OWNERS & PRODUCERS

Jon and Marianella took a chance on life. They gave up their successful careers and comfortable lifestyle in the United States and purchased a coffee farm in the mountains of Naranjo.

There was risk, and there was challenge. But, there was also passion and adventure. With the professional expertise of their coffee engineer, Adrian, and the hard-earned wisdom of their loyal farm worker, Chevo, they dove into each phase of the seed-to-cup journey from planting, soil analysis, water and shade management, soil nutrition, harvest, wet mill and dry mill process to exporting their beans to United States. By working with each phase of the process, Jon and Marianella ensure 100% chain of custody of their coffee.

Chevo brought 40 years of experience working in coffee to Café Con Amor. He is one of the most dedicated and hard working person you will ever find. He takes great pride in his labor and in producing some of the finest coffee in Costa Rica.

Before Café Con Amor, Chevo had never tasted a cup of coffee grown and nurtured with his own hands. Every farm where he worked sold the fruit to bigger mills. This picture captures the emotional moment when Chevo tasted HIS own coffee.

LOS COJEDORES (THE PICKERS)

Café Con Amor pickers care about each plant and understand that they must only pick the perfectly red beans, referred to as “Sangre de Toro”, which means the "Color of Bull’s Blood.”

Each coffee plant is “visited” or picked 3 to 4 times during the harvest. During season, pickers live on the farm and also work on neighboring farms while waiting for beans to reach the perfect ripeness. At the end of season, the pickers return home with their pockets full of hard-earned money and the promise of a job for the next year.
